AFP reported that the accident occurred around 7 a.m. local time (5 a.m. GMT) on a level crossing between the towns of Bethune and Lens in Pas-de-Calais department, northern France, according to the French National Railway Company (SNCF).
French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot said on social platform X that "I am heading to the scene with SNCF CEO Jean Castex."
Reuters quoted a union official as saying that the TGV train hit a military truck.
SNCF stated that rail services between Bethune and Lens will be suspended at least until tonight.
