(CNA Reporter Zhang Qian, Hong Kong, 14th) A fire broke out early this morning at an automated parking garage belonging to Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD in Shenzhen. No one was injured in the incident. BYD stated that preliminary investigations have ruled out battery spontaneous combustion as the cause of the fire.

According to information on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, relevant authorities in Shenzhen announced that a fire occurred in an automated garage on Maluan Street, Pingshan District, at 2:48 AM today. The fire department and other agencies quickly responded and extinguished the blaze; there were no casualties.

BYD later confirmed that a fire occurred at its automated garage located in the Pingshan park. The garage is a designated parking area for test and scrapped vehicles. The company noted that preliminary investigations indicate the fire was sparked by improper operations by an external construction team, ruling out the possibility of battery spontaneous combustion.

The Pingshan District Emergency Management Bureau also stated that the preliminary investigation determined the fire was caused when an external construction unit ignited combustible materials such as insulation cotton while dismantling unused equipment. The possibility of EV spontaneous combustion or battery thermal runaway has been ruled out. (Editor: Yang Shengru) 1150414
