SOFIA, Bulgaria (CNA/Reuters) - Official election results in Bulgaria today indicate an overwhelming victory for the pro-Russian, Eurosceptic party alliance 'Progressive Bulgaria,' led by former President Rumen Radev, which garnered 44.7% of the vote. This result significantly outperformed pro-EU alliances 'We Continue the Change–Democratic Bulgaria' (13.2%) and GERB (13.4%), led by former Prime Minister Boyko Borissov. The outcome, exceeding poll predictions, reflects public resentment towards corruption and established political forces. Bulgaria, a member of the EU and NATO, may now pivot its foreign policy towards Russia, a stance Radev has previously advocated, including resuming Russian oil and gas supplies to Europe, while also criticizing the EU's reliance on renewable energy. The Kremlin expressed encouragement, noting Radev's desire for pragmatic dialogue with Russia.
