WASHINGTON (CNA) – The Trump Organization confirmed to Reuters today that Eric Trump, son of former US President Donald Trump and responsible for the family business, will accompany his father on a visit to China next month.
Kimberly Benza, a spokesperson for the Trump Organization, stated that Eric and his wife Lara Trump will accompany Trump on his visit to China from May 14 to 15 in a private capacity.
Benza said, "Eric is deeply proud of his father and the achievements of this administration, and he is participating in this trip as a supportive son. He has no commercial investments in China and no plans to develop business there. He will not arrange private meetings but will accompany the President to witness this historic moment together."
However, this move may raise concerns about conflicts of interest, as Trump's personal wealth and business activities are managed by Eric and other family members.
Eric currently serves as Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization, overseeing real estate, golf, and blockchain investment businesses; Lara previously served as co-chair of the Republican National Committee and is now the host of "My View with Lara Trump" on Fox News Channel.
Trump has criticized former Democratic President Joe Biden, alleging that during his vice presidency, he allowed his son Hunter Biden to accompany him on a visit to China, and claimed Hunter Biden used his influence to secure Chinese funding for his investments. In 2019, Trump publicly called on China to investigate his political opponents, while the Biden family denied any wrongdoing.
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said, "President Trump looks forward to this trip to China to discuss a number of important issues of mutual concern, including promoting fair trade, improving economic cooperation, and ending the import of fentanyl precursor chemicals into the United States." She added that the trip will build on past constructive dialogues.
Donald Trump Jr., Trump's eldest son, will not participate in this visit, according to his spokesperson. (Compiled by Hsu Rui-cheng) 1150415
