(Central News Agency, Reporter Chen Yu-ting, Taipei, 18th) Promoting a smoke-free city, the Taipei City Government plans to complete 19 outdoor smoking rooms and smoking areas by the end of April, three of which are located in the Ximending commercial district and are currently under construction. The city government stated that this will be the first batch of negative pressure smoking rooms in Taiwan.

Yin Wei, chairperson of the Taipei City Research, Development and Evaluation Commission, uploaded a video on Facebook stating that three negative pressure smoking rooms are already under construction in the Ximending commercial district. They are located on the sidewalks in front of Partyworld Zhonghua New Branch, Taiwan Salt Crispy Chicken Ximending direct-sale store, and Watsons Ximending branch.

He said that the construction is still ongoing. Once completed, they will be the first batch of negative pressure smoking rooms in Taipei and Taiwan, creating an "indoor space outdoors" allowing smokers and non-smokers to actively separate and respect each other.

Yin Wei stated that in addition to building negative pressure smoking rooms in the Ximending and Zhongshan commercial districts, green-hedge smoking areas will also be promoted on Xinyi Road and Dunhua North and South Roads, proceeding step by step. The goal is to ensure that no one inhales secondhand smoke while walking.

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an recently stated that 19 outdoor smoking rooms and smoking areas are expected to be completed by the end of April, and one neighborhood in each of the 12 administrative districts will be selected as a demonstration neighborhood, ensuring smokers' rights while also saving all non-smokers from suffering from secondhand smoke.
