TAINAN (Central News Agency) – A 5-month-old infant in Tainan was allegedly abused to death last year by his parents and a cohabiting woman, with his body subsequently abandoned in a large drainage ditch in Xinying District. The Tainan District Prosecutors Office today concluded its investigation and indicted the three individuals, transferring the case to the Tainan District Court, where it will be heard by a citizen judge panel.
The Tainan City Government's Health Bureau and Social Affairs Bureau discovered the infant's disappearance last year and reported it to the police. On the evening of December 18 of the same year, the infant's body was found in a large drainage ditch in Xinying District. An autopsy by the Tainan District Prosecutors Office determined that the infant had been dead for several days and had multiple unexplained injuries. Among the three suspects, the biological father, surnamed Fang, and the cohabiting woman, surnamed Ling, were ordered detained by the Tainan District Court.
The Tainan District Prosecutors Office stated today that Mr. Fang and Ms. Lin are a married couple and the infant's biological parents. Ms. Ling and Mr. Fang are sworn siblings. They initially lived together in Xinying District and then moved to Yongkang District in October last year. The infant was born in July last year.
From birth until his death, the infant was repeatedly beaten by Mr. Fang with a long soft stick or his bare hands, by Ms. Ling with her fists, and by Ms. Lin by slapping his cheeks and hitting his buttocks with slippers. When the infant cried at their rented residence in Yongkang District, Mr. Fang punched his chest, Ms. Ling punched his abdomen, and Ms. Lin pushed the infant's head against the wall, ultimately leading to his death.
After discovering the infant's death, Ms. Lin and Ms. Ling wrapped the body in garbage bags and then plastic bags. Mr. Fang and Ms. Ling then rode a scooter together to abandon the body in a drainage ditch in Xinying District. (Editor: Li Shu-hua) 1150417
