(CNA Reporter Hsieh Chun-lin, Taipei, 17th) The Supreme Prosecutors Office held a book launch today for "The Quintessence of Taiwan Legal Methodology Forum." Prosecutor General Hsing Tai-chao stated that legal methodology is like the "Nine Yang Manual" in martial arts novels, acting as the core theoretical framework for legal professionals to analyze, interpret, and apply the law.
The Supreme Prosecutors Office issued a press release stating that the first specialized book on legal methodology in the history of Taiwan's judicial practice, "The Quintessence of Taiwan Legal Methodology Forum," is officially published. Eighteen people, including Grand Justices, famous law professors, and prosecutors, were invited to complete it together. It consists of 19 articles, 472 pages, and nearly 300,000 words, constructing a database of Taiwan's legal methodology.
The book launch was held today at the Guiyang Lecture Hall of the Supreme Prosecutors Office. Minister of Justice Cheng Ming-chien said in his speech that the publication of this book is an important pioneering feat achieved jointly by academia, practitioners, and Business Weekly. It not only demonstrates the research level of the Supreme Prosecutors Office's Legal Research Center but also provides the most solid jurisprudential guidance for frontline judicial personnel. Its importance can be compared to the critical infrastructure of judicial practice. He hopes this book will become an important cornerstone for the future development of legal methodology in Taiwan.
Former President of the Judicial Yuan Lai In-jaw said that legal methodology is closely related to everyone. For instance, regarding the US Supreme Court's tariff case ruling on February 20 this year, he had written an article as early as last October pointing out that if following the recent trend of textual interpretation in American legal methodology, Trump would lose. This was not a prediction of the outcome, but a conclusion derived from methodological analysis. In fact, behind every case and every judgment, there is its context and methodology.
Hsing Tai-chao stated that the compilation of this book places special emphasis on establishing a database of Taiwan's localized legal methodology, bringing together domestic and foreign theoretical and practical experts. It presents diverse viewpoints in a rare dialectical forum format, continuously deepening the development of legal methodology at the intersection of theory and empirical evidence.
Ho Fei-peng, founder of Business Weekly Publishing, said this book is their first publishing achievement in collaboration with the public sector. The cooperation is particularly meaningful and represents a new starting point. He hopes to continue deepening cooperation with the judicial and legal sectors in the future, allowing the public to understand professional legal knowledge more deeply through book publications.
The press release pointed out that the cover features an armillary sphere, symbolizing "an attempt to seek law and logic amidst variables in a changing society, and to pursue methodology through logic and empirical evidence."
According to the press release, the book has four major sections. Besides traditional legal methodology, it also discusses law and economics; and provides critiques and applications of famous jurisprudential writings and speeches. In addition, the book's study notes specifically interpret the profound meanings hidden in subtle words, as well as the methodology from fact-finding to realizing justice on the investigative front.
The press release mentioned that the purpose of the publication is to provide a profound and flexible thinking foundation for Taiwan, hoping to construct a legal methodology with subjective characteristics in the future and elevate Taiwan's judicial standards. (Editor: Hsieh Ya-chu) 1150417
