President Lai: 'AI New Ten Major Construction Projects' to Create Over NT$15 Trillion in Output Value by 2040

Taipei, April 13 (CNA) President Lai Ching-te stated today, during his reception of the winners and judging panel of the 'Third IT Matters Awards' at the Presidential Office, that the government is promoting the 'AI New Ten Major Construction Projects.' The goal is to create over NT$15 trillion in output value and 500,000 AI job opportunities by 2040, and to assist various industries in adopting AI tools, building a complete AI ecosystem, and leading Taiwan towards an era of comprehensive intelligence. President Lai, in his address, first congratulated the winners of the 'Third IT Matters Awards,' recognizing their contributions in cultivating talent, creating excellent workplaces, promoting digital transformation, engaging in open-source communities, or using AI technology to prevent fraud. These efforts demonstrate that technology not only creates value but is also changing society and improving lives. President Lai affirmed the IMA Information Managers Association for encouraging more people to dedicate themselves to promoting the development of Taiwan's information technology through awards and recognition. Thanks to the efforts of the award winners, innovative seeds are blooming everywhere, making Taiwan's IT field vibrant and continuously growing, and adding more human touch to Taiwan's technological energy. The President mentioned that current AI and digital technologies are rapidly changing the development of the global economy and industries. The IT industry is a key pillar in promoting modern digital transformation. In addition to continuously leveraging Taiwan's advantages in semiconductors and information and communication technology, it is crucial to transform information energy into a driving force for industrial upgrading and social progress. The President explained that the government is promoting the 'AI New Ten Major Construction Projects,' aiming to create over NT$15 trillion in output value and 500,000 AI job opportunities by 2040, and to assist various industries in adopting AI tools, building a complete AI ecosystem, and leading Taiwan towards an era of comprehensive intelligence. President Lai is confident in the vision of promoting the 'AI New Ten Major Construction Projects.' He stated that according to the 'World Digital Competitiveness Survey' released by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) last year, Taiwan ranked tenth globally, with 'Future Readiness' ranking third worldwide. The President pointed out that the government will actively develop computing power and Taiwan's sovereign AI training corpus, and ensure data security and innovation through smart government and data governance.
