The Taoyuan City Department of Education announced today that during a graduation trip, 59 students from Taoyuan Municipal Pingzhen Junior High School experienced vomiting and diarrhea after dining last night at Janfusun Fancyworld Hotel in Yunlin County. Currently, 30 students remain hospitalized for observation. If vendor negligence is found, accountability and compensation will be pursued. The Taoyuan City Department of Education issued a press release stating that over 540 students from Pingzhen Junior High School participated in the graduation trip. After their meal last night at Janfusun Fancyworld Hotel, students successively reported symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort, including vomiting and diarrhea. The school initiated an emergency response mechanism upon receiving reports, with accompanying supervisors and teachers escorting 59 students for medical treatment. The Department of Education noted that according to preliminary hospital diagnoses, most affected students suffered from acute gastroenteritis. Currently, 30 students remain under observation at National Cheng Kung University Hospital, while students who returned to the hotel are gradually recovering and have started eating normally. The hotel has arranged a dedicated rest area for students feeling unwell. The Department of Education stated that to clarify the cause of the incident, the school and relevant units have cooperated with the local health bureau for sample collection and testing. The Department of Education will continue to track the test results. If it is subsequently confirmed that the incident was caused by hygiene deficiencies on the part of the vendor, relevant units will be asked to impose severe penalties according to law, and assistance will be provided to the school in seeking compensation based on the contract. The Department of Education stated that after assessing the students' physical condition, they are expected to return to school today at 1:40 PM. Teachers and school medical staff will continue to monitor the students' health status on the bus. The Department of Education has instructed continuous tracking of students' health. The Department of Education emphasized that students' health and safety are the primary considerations for off-campus activities. In addition to monitoring subsequent developments, all schools are required to strictly supervise catering hygiene during related activities to protect students' right to education and health.
