Migrant Worker Literature Award Call for Submissions Kicks Off, Unearthing Life Stories and Local Inspiration

Founder Chang Cheng stated in his speech that recent discussions in Taiwanese society about introducing Indian migrant workers have seen many doubts and negative voices, but he believes there is no need to be overly critical. The important thing is how to transform this into an opportunity for inclusion and learning through understanding and contact. Chang Cheng stated that if Taiwan is to continue moving forward in the era of globalization, the key is not to exclude differences, but how to coexist with differences. He emphasized that only by cultivating curiosity and respect for unfamiliar cultures, and ensuring that diverse ethnic groups are treated fairly in institutional and social atmospheres, can Taiwan truly become an open and resilient society. Through literature, images, and various cultural actions, more people can understand the life experiences of immigrants and migrant workers, thereby reducing misunderstandings and prejudices. Ho Hsin-ming, chairman of the Taiwan Wild Grass Writers Association, stated in his speech that with the development of artificial intelligence in recent years, many people have become anxious about creation, fearing being replaced. However, unique human life experiences cannot be replicated, especially with the convergence of diverse ethnic groups and different cultures bringing varied perspectives in Taiwan. He believes that through the power of literature and imagination, the entire society can be further united. Tang Sheng-jung, chairman of Han Tang Culture and Creative, stated in his speech that Taiwan is an immigrant society, and early immigrants who came to Taiwan have been rooted here for decades, becoming part of society. The new generation of immigrants and migrant workers are also writing their own stories. If Taiwan hopes to continue to grow and strengthen, it should welcome people from different backgrounds to participate in the development of this land with a more open and confident attitude, allowing diverse cultures to become a force driving social progress. The "11th Migrant Worker Literature Award" is open for submissions from the 14th to May 20th. Submissions are open to migrant workers, new residents, and second-generation new residents worldwide, with no restrictions on creative form (poetry, prose, novels, etc.), and a word limit of 3000 characters. This year, a new "Island Resonance Family Special Award" has been added to encourage migrant worker friends to write about their observations in Taiwan and their special experiences interacting with Taiwanese people.
