Man arrested for splashing gasoline outside Chinese medicine clinic, detained on suspicion of intimidation

On the evening of April 12, 2026, a man named Wei drove to a Chinese medicine clinic located on the first floor of a residential building in Xitun District, Taichung City. He splashed a large amount of gasoline at the entrance and arcade of the clinic before driving away. After citizens reported the incident, police and prosecutors formed a special task force. On the afternoon of April 13, police apprehended Wei in Nantun District, Taichung City, seizing a gasoline can and a lighter used in the act. Following questioning by prosecutors at the Taichung District Prosecutors Office, Wei was deemed to have committed serious offenses, including preparing to set fire to a residential building, intimidation, and violating the Stalking and Harassment Prevention Act by carrying dangerous items during stalking and harassment. Prosecutors also noted that Wei had repeatedly intimidated and stalked other victims by splashing gasoline in Pingtung County and Taichung City in 2025. Considering the nature of the case, the methods used, and the public danger, the prosecutors requested and were granted his detention by the Taichung District Court, without restrictions on visits.
