(Central News Agency, New Taipei City, April 17) The CPBL's Uni-President 7-ELEVEn Lions defeated the Fubon Guardians 9-5 today, achieving their third consecutive win, with Li Cheng-ling's go-ahead RBI single in the top of the 7th inning.

The Guardians began a three-game series against the Lions at their home stadium, Xinzhuang Baseball Stadium. Both teams exchanged blows. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Guardians took the lead with Ye Tzu-ting's double, followed by Lin Tai-an's groundout scoring another run, and Chang Ming-yu's single adding a third run, giving the team a 3-0 lead.

The Lions scored 2 runs in the top of the 3rd inning. In the top of the 4th, Lin Pei-wei, Li Cheng-ling, and Chen Chung-yu strung together consecutive hits to tie the score. Chen Sheng-ping's sacrifice fly brought in the go-ahead run. In the top of the 5th, the Lions added runs due to an error, followed by consecutive hits from Lin Tzu-hao and Su Chih-chieh, taking a 5-3 lead.

Fan Kuo-chen of the Guardians hit his fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the 5th inning, a two-run shot that tied the game. The Lions offense struck again in the top of the 7th inning. With runners on base after Lin Tzu-hao's hit and Su Chih-chieh drawing a walk, Li Cheng-ling hit a timely single with two outs, giving the team the lead.

In the top of the 8th inning, Chen Sheng-ping led off with a single. With two outs, Lin Hung-hsien hit an RBI single, Lin Tzu-hao added another run with a double, Su Chih-chieh was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Lin Pei-wei drove in an insurance run with a single.

Lions starting pitcher Hu Chih-wei pitched 6 innings today, giving up 7 hits, including 1 home run. He struck out 6 batters, issued 1 walk, and allowed 5 earned runs. With offensive support from his teammates, he secured his first win of the season.

Lions head coach Lin Yue-ping said after the game that Hu Chih-wei's performance was acceptable, but the two at-bats in the 2nd inning were regrettable. He noted that Hu had a pitcher's count lead against Wang Nien-hao but issued a walk, and against Ye Tzu-ting, he also had a pitcher's count lead before ultimately choosing a curveball, which resulted in a line-drive double down the line.

Lin Yue-ping stated that the situation in the 2nd inning was a major reason for the early scoring. If Ye Tzu-ting's at-bat could have resulted in an out, the crisis might have been averted. As for Fan Kuo-chen's home run, it was the result of confronting the batter when behind in the count.

Lin Yue-ping mentioned that the batting order connected well today, and it was rare to score multiple runs against Guardians starter Shawn Morimando (Magic Blue). Even after the opponent brought in their bullpen, they were still able to score. (Editor: Kuan Chung-wei) 1150417
