Li Yang suggests donating millions in Olympic prize money to charity, hoping more groups gain visibility

Li Yang reiterated today that these charity organizations have been his long-term focus, and he wants more people to see them.

The Hongdao Foundation recently awarded prize money to Taiwanese medalists from the Tokyo and Paris Olympics. Gold medalists received NT$10 million. The "Lin-Yang pair" Li Yang and Wang Chi-lin won two gold medals in Olympic badminton men's doubles, receiving NT$20 million, so each received NT$10 million. However, Li Yang immediately stated via social media that he hoped the foundation would "directly" donate this money to charity organizations, which sparked widespread discussion.

Li Yang attended an event today and was interviewed by the media, stating that he particularly wanted to thank Hongdao Foundation Chairman Lin Hung-dao, who contributed both money and effort during his tenure as chairman of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee. He was happy that Lin had fulfilled his promise, and as an athlete, he had received much support from family, coaches, and peers along the way, "allowing me to stand here and serve as Sports Minister."

Li Yang added that his decision to donate to charity organizations was based on the hope that grassroots sports would be improved through cooperation between the Sports Administration, the Ministry of Education, and county and city governments. He said these charity organizations have been his long-term focus, and he hopes to use his influence to make more people seen. "I apologize for any unpleasantness caused in the past few days."

Having saved NT$300 million in seven months, Li Yang mentioned that some associations' use of funds was indeed not perfect, but there were also well-performing associations. He hoped the public would give them some time to guide associations to further improve the environment.
