(Central News Agency, Taichung, April 17) Taiwan People's Party founder Ko Wen-je, while accompanying a Taichung city council candidate on a street campaign at Fengjia Night Market tonight, was allegedly sprayed with chili water by unknown individuals.

Ko Wen-je began his day in Fengyuan's First Market with People's Party Taichung city council candidate Lian Xiaohua, visited Dajia Jenn Lann Temple in the afternoon, and teamed up with People's Party legislator Chen Qinglong in the evening to accompany People's Party Taichung city council candidate Liu Qinyu on a street campaign at Fengjia Night Market.

After the campaign event concluded, Liu Qinyu explained that while campaigning with Ko Wen-je at Fengjia Night Market, two unknown individuals on a motorcycle maliciously sprayed chili water into the air and towards volunteers. This caused severe respiratory discomfort not only to her, Ko Wen-je, and several staff members, but also affected many innocent members of the public present, posing a significant threat to public safety.

Liu Qinyu stated that they strongly condemn this malicious act of violence, and tomorrow she will accompany the affected volunteers to formally file a report with the Sixth Precinct of the Taichung City Police Bureau, vowing zero tolerance.

The Sixth Precinct of the Taichung City Police Bureau stated that due to the large crowd surrounding Ko Wen-je during the campaign and the presence of police officers nearby, they will review video footage taken by officers and surveillance camera footage from nearby to further investigate and clarify whether chili water or other irritants were used.
