(Antalya, Turkey, April 18) Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said today that after the failure of the first round of Iran-US peace talks brokered by Pakistan, the date for the next round of talks has not yet been determined.

According to Agence France-Presse, Khatibzadeh said at the sidelines of the annual diplomatic forum held in Antalya, southern Turkey: "We cannot determine the date until we reach a consensus on the framework of the talks... We are currently focused on finalizing the understanding framework between the two sides. We do not want to participate in negotiations or meetings that are doomed to fail and could be used as an excuse to escalate tensions."

Following the Iranian military's announcement of closing the strategic Strait of Hormuz again today, Khatibzadeh said that the United States "cannot impose its will" to blockade the strait.

He told reporters: "While Iran is making good faith efforts to promote safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, the US cannot impose its will to blockade it on Iran."

Washington has threatened further strikes if an agreement with Tehran is not reached. Khatibzadeh said US President Trump "tweets a lot."

He told reporters during the forum in this Mediterranean coastal city: "The US tweets a lot, speaks a lot. Sometimes it's confusing, you know, sometimes it's contradictory. (Compiled by: He Hongru) 04180418
