(CNA Reporter Huang Chiao-wen, Taipei, 18th) The Danjiang Bridge will open to traffic in May. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications' Highway Bureau stated today that the installation of all 126 landscape light pillars on the bridge has been completed. Phased lighting tests for the light pillars have been conducted during evening hours since April 14. The overall testing has gone smoothly, and they will continue to confirm the lighting effects and system stability.

Connecting Tamsui and Bali in New Taipei City across the mouth of the Tamsui River, the Danjiang Bridge has a total main bridge length of about 920 meters and a main span of 450 meters, making it the world's longest single-tower asymmetric cable-stayed bridge. Designed by the firm of the internationally renowned architect Zaha Hadid, it is expected to officially open to traffic on May 12.

The most eye-catching visual focal point of the Danjiang Bridge is the radiating stay cables, resembling harp strings. The landscape light pillars are installed between the cables, with each pillar having a different height and angle, creating a rhythmic harmony that echoes the stay cables.

The Highway Bureau issued a press release stating that all 126 landscape light pillars on the Danjiang Bridge have been installed. Aside from serving the function of beautifying the bridge's landscape, the nighttime lighting also helps improve the visibility of the driving environment on the bridge deck. Therefore, conducting lighting tests before opening is primarily to confirm the operational status of the various equipment in the actual environment, ensuring the nighttime driving safety of future road users.

The Highway Bureau pointed out that the focus of this test includes the brightness of the fixtures, the stability of the light source, the illumination range, and the overall nighttime visual effect. By grasping the presentation of the nighttime light environment on the bridge deck through on-site testing, it will serve as the basis for subsequent system optimization and adjustment, ensuring complete functionality and stable operation when officially launched.

The Highway Bureau stated that the Danjiang Bridge landscape light pillars coordinate with the overall design vocabulary of the main bridge, echoing the stay cables and the main tower. In addition to presenting the layers of the bridge's nighttime landscape, it also demonstrates the Danjiang Bridge's characteristics of combining traffic function with engineering aesthetics. Relevant lighting planning still prioritizes safety and practicality, balancing the overall landscape effect of the bridge while meeting the needs of nighttime illumination.

Furthermore, in coordination with the planning of a series of events before the opening of the Danjiang Bridge, the Highway Bureau noted that a landscape lighting activation ceremony will be held during the "Night of Gratitude and Beauty" event on May 9. This will express gratitude to people from all walks of life involved in promoting the project and showcase the nighttime appearance of the Danjiang Bridge to the public.
