Chen Hsien-mei Challenges 'Disfiguring' Old Age Makeup, Recalls Past Struggles of Waiting Tables During Slump

Chen Hsien-mei, Chen Hsi-feng, Wu Hao-sheng, Zang Rui-xuan, and Yang Zhen attended the press conference for the drama 'Wo Long Hao Sui Yue' today. To portray the realistic signs of aging on environmental volunteers, actors Chen Hsien-mei, Chen Hsi-feng, and Wu Hao-sheng challenged 'aging' acting and 'disfiguring' old age makeup. 'There are no selfies in my phone from this drama; looking in the mirror made me sad,' she laughed, adding that she usually undergoes radiofrequency lifting, but for the drama, she had to deliberately draw wrinkles and nasolabial folds, causing a huge psychological gap. Besides the old age makeup, Chen Hsien-mei plays a strong woman who heals her depression through environmental work. To embody the character's melancholic state, Chen Hsien-mei opened her 'memory drawer' from real life, recalling past low points. She admitted that in her early career, despite being nominated for a Golden Horse Award for 'Hill of No Words,' she faced a period of stagnation in her acting career. To survive, she once set up a street stall on Zhongxiao East Road, worked as a substitute at department store counters, and even waited tables at hotel wedding banquets. This unstable period made her deeply empathize with the character's sense of gain and loss and breakdown. 'That feeling of depression was something I had experienced, so it was easier to transition into the role.' Chen Hsien-mei did not dare to tell her family or friends about this low point. Chen Hsien-mei improved her mental state through exercise and running, and her depression healed without medication, sustaining her until her performance in 'Dreams Behind the Curtain' revitalized her acting career.
