Anti-Dumping Case on Chinese and Korean Electrical Steel: Ministry of Finance Extends Preliminary Determination Deadline

(Central News Agency reporter Lu Yan-tzu, Taipei, 16th) The Ministry of Finance announced at the end of last year that it had launched an anti-dumping investigation on imported cold-rolled non-oriented electrical steel products from South Korea and China. Today, it further announced that based on investigation needs, the deadline for the preliminary determination will be extended to June 8 this year.

Because China Steel Corporation applied for the imposition of anti-dumping duties on imported cold-rolled non-oriented electrical steel products from South Korea and China, the Customs Administration of the Ministry of Finance announced the initiation of an investigation in December last year to maintain a fair and reasonable trade environment for domestic industries.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs held a trade relief review meeting on February 10 this year to deliberate on the preliminary investigation results of industrial damage in the anti-dumping case of cold-rolled non-oriented electrical steel products from South Korea and mainland China. It concluded that there are reasonable indications that domestic industries have suffered substantial damage, and transferred the case to the Ministry of Finance for a dumping investigation.

The Customs Administration explained that the cold-rolled non-oriented electrical steel products in this case are cold-rolled flat-rolled steel products in coils or non-coils, coated with non-metallic insulating materials on the surface, with a thickness of 0.135 mm (inclusive) to 0.715 mm (inclusive), excluding steel products with an iron loss value exceeding 13.00 watts per kilogram or less than 1.80 watts per kilogram under the test conditions of a frequency of 50 Hz and a maximum magnetic flux density of 1.5 Webers per square meter.
