Taipei Literature Festival 'TerraWalk' Exhibition: 8 Writers Lead Exploration of Land Memories

The 2026 Taipei Literature Festival's 'TerraWalk - What are your memories of soil?' literary exhibition will feature eight writers who will use text and actions to analyze Taipei's 'soil,' guiding the public to discover land memories. The event, organized by the Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs and undertaken by the Wensun Magazine Society, held a special guided tour today. The eight writers, including Cheng Ting Apyang Imiq, Li Lu, Lin Li-ching, Hsu Chen-fu, Chen Hao-jen, Deng Chiu-yun, Lo Yi-shan, and Yen Chung-hsien, have explored areas such as Daan Forest Park, Neihu Tatayu, Wanhua, Guandu Plain, Guizikeng, Wenshan, and Yangmingshan, writing textual creations about soil, which are presented in the 'Matters of Soil' exhibition area. The creators, under the theme 'Soil is ______?', have also written their own understandings and feelings about soil, displayed in the 'Works of Soil' area. For example, Hsu Chen-fu describes 'soil as a bad friend,' Cheng Ting Apyang Imiq states 'soil is a flowing soup pot,' Chen Hao-jen calls 'soil the star map of the earth,' and artist Yen Chung-hsien has created 'The Broken Soil of the Strange Earth God Temple' in this area, inviting viewers to explore the mysterious soil. During the special guided tour, creator Hsu Chen-fu shared his experience digging soil in Daan Forest Park and discovering traces of past residents' lives. Chen Hao-jen spoke about walking along the dike road under the scorching sun and realizing that soil is like stamps and footballs, capable of taking people far away. Lin Li-ching focused on the soil of Wanhua, observing the footprints left by laborers. Li Lu explored the soil of Guizikeng and, seeing the white mountain walls, was reminded of his grandfather's sake bottles. Yen Chung-hsien shared childhood memories of visiting Longshan Temple with his grandmother. The exhibition provides 'Field Notes' for visitors to pick up and record their own observations of the land at any time. The 'TerraWalk - What are your memories of soil?' literary exhibition will be open from April 18 to May 17 at the Bopiliao Historic Block.
