(CNA Reporter Huang Hsu-sheng, New Taipei, 16th) The Minquan Community Development Association in Yonghe District, New Taipei City stated today that their "Symbiotic Community Intergenerational Integration and Elder Empowerment Model" won the "Community Care" category at the 2026 Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards. They traveled to Singapore to receive the award, demonstrating that Taiwan's grassroots community care capabilities are recognized.
The Yonghe District Minquan Community Development Association issued a press release today stating that participating in the 14th Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards competition, they were awarded the "Innovation of the Year - Community Care Model" among competing institutions from many countries, allowing Taiwan's elderly care model to be seen.
The press release stated that the organizers pointed out that participants included institutions from Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and other countries. The evaluation focused on improving the quality of life for the elderly and innovative service models. The achievements of Yonghe's Minquan Community highlighted the practice of intergenerational integration and social participation.
The Minquan Community Development Association stated that the densely populated Yonghe District has established a mutual aid network and proposed 3 core programs. These include the "Grandpa and Grandma Bear Baby Joy Park," which trains 57 elders to become childminders to drive services; promoting the "Loneliness Prescription," where elders care for the neighborhood to reduce loneliness; and operating a bakery social enterprise combining elders and people with psychiatric disorders to enhance the community's economic and financial autonomy.
Chiu Hsiu-lan, CEO of the association, stated in the press release that community care is not just about providing services, but more importantly, about helping the elderly rediscover their value, transforming from care recipients to community participants, becoming an important force supporting the community. She pointed out that this award belongs to all community residents and also proves that an aging society can be transformed into a positive force through innovative models. In the future, they will continue to promote local experience and international exchanges, providing a reference model for cities facing aging. (Editor: Lin Shu-hui) 1150416
