Military Officers Lured to Film Defection Videos and Leak Secrets, 7 Detainees Remanded After Trial Transfer

(Central News Agency reporter Hung Hsueh-kuang, Kaohsiung, 14th) The Ciaotou District Prosecutors Office investigated a case involving an overseas group bribing and recruiting active and retired military personnel to film defection videos to China and leak secrets. The prosecutors today indicted 10 people under the National Security Act and other laws. Seven detained military officers were transferred to the Ciaotou District Court for trial and ordered to remain in custody due to flight and collusion risks.

The Ciaotou District Court explained in the evening that the 10 individuals, including a man surnamed Chen, indicted today by the Ciaotou District Prosecutors Office, are suspected of violating the Anti-Corruption Act, the National Security Act, and other offenses. Among them, seven defendants had already been detained during the investigation. After questioning, it was determined that they were highly suspected of committing serious crimes such as receiving bribes in violation of their duties, and there were substantial reasons to believe they might flee or collude with witnesses, so all were ordered to be detained.

Prosecutors investigated and found that the man surnamed Chen met members of an overseas hostile force group, including one nicknamed 'Han Han,' online around September 2024. After accepting free trips to Macau and Zhuhai, he provided his personal online banking account and password to the group for 3,000 NTD per month, serving as a fund circulation tool to bribe Taiwanese military personnel.

The group subsequently contacted Taiwanese military personnel in need of funds through social media, using monetary rewards to lure them into filming 'defection videos' and recruiting them to collect military secrets. The nine recruited military personnel, including a man surnamed Huang, covered the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard Administration, including both active and retired personnel, with the highest rank being at least a major.

In the Army, those involved included a sergeant from an armored unit in Gangshan, Kaohsiung, a first lieutenant counselor from the Sixth Army Corps responsible for grassroots counseling, a grassroots soldier from a mechanized infantry battalion, and a major who formerly worked at the Army Aviation and Special Forces Command and held security secrets.

In the Navy, it included a Marine Corps sergeant and a Navy administrative corporal; the Air Force included a senior airman from the Air Force Operations Command and a master sergeant from the Pingtung Air Force Wing.
