The Baishatun Mazu's foot pilgrimage to Chaotian Temple in Beigang, Yunlin has a history of nearly 200 years. Since 1952, in addition to the main hall's Mazu from Gongtian Temple, the nearby Shanbian Mazu has also joined the procession.

This afternoon, President Lai, accompanied by DPP Secretary-General Hsu Kuo-yung and others, first went to the Shanbian Mazu Temple in Houlong, Miaoli to pay respects and to see off the Shanbian Mazu, who is about to embark on the pilgrimage.

In his speech, President Lai stated that he represented the people of the nation in respectfully sending off Shanbian Mazu on her pilgrimage to Beigang Chaotian Temple. He prayed for Mazu's blessing for a safe, smooth, and successful journey, and also for favorable weather, national prosperity, and peace for the entire country. He wished Miaoli County 'no disasters in all four seasons, and celebrations in all eight festivals,' and for all devotees to have peaceful families and make great fortunes.

Regarding the ongoing construction of the new Shanbian Mazu Temple, President Lai pointed out that temple reconstruction is quite difficult. He noted that Taiwanese people are very kind, enthusiastic in their offerings, and devout in their faith, and he hoped that the Miaoli County Government would give its full support to the reconstruction project.

President Lai expressed his gratitude to the many people who took the time to participate in the pilgrimage, making this year's event even grander than before. He noted that many people provided food, medical services, and various supplies on-site, all hoping for the event's complete success. He wished the vast number of believers good luck after 'crawling under the palanquin,' and good health, happiness, and fulfillment for their entire families. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150412
