TAIPEI, Taiwan (CNA) -- The Taipei International Auto Parts & Accessories Exhibition kicked off today, with Foxconn making a significant presence. Foxconn spokesperson Wu Chun-yi stated this afternoon that the company continues to develop lithium iron phosphate, semi-solid, and solid-state batteries in Kaohsiung, and is also constructing an EV passenger car production base there. In addition to supplying key components for four-wheel EVs, they are planning to expand into applications for two- and three-wheel electric vehicles.

Foxconn is showcasing products such as automotive semiconductors from its S business group and electric drive systems from its C business group, as well as EV platforms including the Model B, Model C North America, Model D, and Model U. They are also displaying batteries from their Kaohsiung battery center and automotive solutions from their subsidiary FIH, emphasizing the characteristics of Taiwan design and manufacturing.

Looking ahead at Foxconn's Kaohsiung battery center, Wu Chun-yi said that lithium iron phosphate batteries can be gradually mass-produced this year. Progress is fast for commercial vehicle applications, including batteries for trucks and heavy-duty electric buses, while large-capacity energy storage cells are also entering mass production.

Wu Chun-yi pointed out that Foxconn is also developing solid-state and semi-solid batteries in Kaohsiung, which are important directions for Foxconn's EV battery development considering future safety considerations.

Regarding EV manufacturing, Wu Chun-yi stated that in addition to producing electric buses in Kaohsiung, Foxconn is also constructing an EV passenger car production base. Production capacity will be planned according to actual customer demand, with a focus on key component to complete vehicle exports from Taiwan. This expands their Contract Design and Manufacturing Service (CDMS) business model for domestic and international clients.

Wu Chun-yi said that Foxconn faces no bottleneck issues in EV production exports, and any brand client is a potential customer, with business opportunities in both Taiwan and overseas markets.

In addition to the CDMS business model for complete vehicles, Wu Chun-yi noted that Foxconn is actively developing key automotive component products. They are not only entering the four-wheel EV sector but are also considering applications for the two- and three-wheel electric vehicles that have a considerable scale in the Southeast Asian market.

When asked about the impact of the tense Middle East conflict, Wu Chun-yi stated that the Foxconn Group operates approximately 233 plants in 24 countries globally, possessing global supply chain resilience. They utilize their global layout to respond quickly to customer and regional market demands and changing situations, including unexpected variables arising from the current Middle East situation.
