Nigeria Military's Anti-Extremist Operation: Airstrike Accidentally Hits Market, 200 Dead Reported

The Nigerian Air Force announced that the military has launched a "Civilian Harm Incident Investigation Team... to immediately proceed to the site of the incident to conduct an investigation."
It is reported that during an operation to clear extremist organizations, the military's airstrike accidentally hit a market in Jilli village, located on the border between Borno State and Yobe State.
The Air Force had earlier stated that it had killed extremists of the Islamist group Boko Haram in the Jilli village area of Borno State.
The neighboring Yobe State government subsequently issued a statement indicating that a market near the state border was hit by an airstrike, and many people were gathered there to buy groceries at the time.
Borno State is the core area of insurgent activity, and long-term instability has caused thousands of deaths and millions of displacements.
Lawan Zanna Nur Geidam, the traditional leader and constituency representative of Jilli village, told Reuters that this market airstrike incident was extremely serious. According to current understanding, over 200 people have died.
