Nantou Ren'ai Police Officer Indicted for Leaking Interrogation Information in Case

A detective surnamed Bao from the Ren'ai Precinct of the Nantou County Police Bureau was indicted by prosecutors for allegedly leaking interrogation information during an investigation into a sexual assault case at a campsite last year. The precinct discovered the misconduct and referred him for legal action. The officer was recently charged with leaking confidential documents not related to national defense, and the police will continue to pursue administrative accountability.

Last year, a man surnamed Xu, the son of a campsite owner in Ren'ai Township, was accused of sexually assaulting a minor. Relatives of the victim alleged that the girl was sexually assaulted by the campsite owner's son during a birthday celebration and questioned the delay in the investigation. The Ren'ai Precinct of the Nantou County Police Bureau initially investigated the man for alleged sexual assault under the Criminal Code and referred the case to the Nantou District Prosecutors Office, which recently concluded the investigation and filed an indictment.

During the process, an ancillary case emerged: a Ren'ai Precinct officer allegedly allowed the defendant and a self-proclaimed lawyer to arbitrarily view and photograph the victim's statement. The Ren'ai Precinct explained today that Detective Bao admitted to improperly leaking interrogation information in August 2025 to facilitate the investigation, constituting a dereliction of duty. The precinct noticed irregularities and cooperated with the Nantou County Police Bureau's Inspector General's Office for investigation and handling.

The Ren'ai Precinct stated that it handled the matter based on the principle of non-cover-up and non-concealment. On September 12, 2025, it referred the case to the Nantou District Prosecutors Office for investigation. Detective Bao was indicted on April 7 for leaking confidential documents not related to national defense. In addition to Bao's criminal liability, the precinct will pursue administrative accountability for his misconduct and the inadequate supervision of various levels of cadres, while strengthening internal management and legal education for officers.
