Deputy Minister of Sports Zheng Shizhong Resigns, Will Return to School to Continue Applying Expertise

Experience: Director-General of Sports Administration, Ministry of Education; Professor, Dean of College of Management, Director of Graduate Institute of Athletics and Coaching Science, and Chief of General Affairs at National Taiwan Sport University; Secretary-General of Chinese Taipei Football Association; Deputy Secretary-General of Chinese Taipei Athletics Association; Vice Chairman of Chinese Taipei Sports Coaches Association; Deputy Secretary-General of Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee; Executive Committee Member and Secretary-General of Asian Coaching Science Association; Member of Medical Committee of Asian Athletics Association; Arbitrator for Sports Disputes in Chinese Taipei.

Zheng Shizhong told Central News Agency today that there was no particular reason for his resignation, simply that he felt his mission was accomplished. He said, "Returning to teach at school, I can continue to use my expertise to help Taiwan's sports development."

It is understood that Zheng Shizhong's secondment was not due to expire until February next year, but he resigned 10 months early.

Minister of Sports Li Yang, who attended the Legislative Yuan for interpellation today, also emphasized, "This part will have to wait until the Executive Yuan issues an official document before it can be confirmed. As for myself, I will have a detailed discussion with Deputy Minister Zheng after receiving the official document."

Li Yang also guaranteed that all operations of the Sports Department would not be affected at this stage and would ensure that all tasks continue to be promoted. (Editor: Huang Ming-hsi) 1150409
