Taichung Elementary School Baseball Coach Sexual Assault Case; Prosecutors Gather New Evidence for Ongoing Clarification

Taiwan's Taichung District Prosecutors Office announced today that after expanding the investigation into the case, new evidence has been successively gathered and is being continuously investigated and clarified. Regarding the specific number of victims, due to the ongoing investigation of the case, relevant figures are not yet available for statistics. Mr. Song was accused of serving as a baseball coach at a primary school in Taichung from 2018, and during that period, he allegedly abused the trust of young boys, committing offenses such as rape and indecent assault. Prosecutors stated in the previous two indictments that between 2019 and 2024, Mr. Song committed acts of forced sexual intercourse, forced indecent assault, and opportunistic indecent assault on males under 14 years of age, totaling 90 counts. Dozens of students were victimized, and 40 pieces of sexual imagery were involved. He was indicted on charges of forced indecent assault and other offenses. The first instance court sentenced him to varying terms of 3 years and 6 months to 8 years and 6 months for the 90 counts; the case was appealed to the Taiwan High Court, which upheld the original judgment in November of last year. The case is currently under appeal, and the combined sentence to be executed has not yet been determined. The Taichung District Prosecutors Office has further investigated and discovered more than 10 additional young male victims.
