The Third Special Police Corps announced today that they received a report from the Directorate General of Customs, Taipei Customs, regarding four international express mail packages mailed from Canada to Taiwan. These packages, disguised as 'oolong tea,' contained a total of 20 bags of Schedule II drug marijuana, with a gross weight of 1340.5 grams. They immediately reported the case to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office for investigation.

After the special task force deployed surveillance and gathered evidence of the suspect's drug trafficking activities and current residence, they launched a two-pronged search operation. Yang Nan was arrested as he emerged from a post office in Sanxia District, New Taipei City, to collect the package. Following the lead, they raided a carpentry factory in Sanxia and apprehended the mastermind, Lai Nan. A total of 1340.5 grams of marijuana and 3 bags of cathinone were seized.

The Third Special Police Corps pointed out that Lai Nan orchestrated the drug trafficking plan from behind the scenes, directing Yang Nan to collect the packages. Yang Nan, a wanted fugitive and terminally ill patient, not only failed to repent during his evasion but escalated his criminal activities by attempting to profit from transporting a large quantity of drugs. The seized drugs have an estimated market value of up to NT$3 million.

Following interrogation, Lai Nan and Yang Nan were transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office for investigation in accordance with the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act. After an inquiry, the prosecutor applied to the court for the detention of Lai Nan, which was approved. Yang Nan, who had been convicted and sentenced for violations of the Firearms, Ammunition, and Knives Control Act and drug-related offenses, had absconded. The police have now transferred him for execution of his sentence. (Editor: Lin Shu-hui) 1150408
