U.S.-Iran War Key News
(Central News Agency, Washington, 15th -综合 international reports) U.S. President Trump announced today that an American citizen detained in Iran since December 2024 has been released and allowed to leave the country.
According to AFP, Trump posted on his social platform Truth Social that the American citizen is "now safely out of Iran and in good condition," adding, "The United States is very grateful for the goodwill shown by Iran!"
Trump, who recently ordered the resumption of airstrikes on Iran and reinstated a maritime blockade on Iranian ports, did not mention the woman's name or the reason for her detention, only describing it as "wrongful detention."
However, lawyer Jared Genser responded to Trump's post this evening, confirming that the released woman is his client.
In a statement, Genser said: "I am thrilled to announce that my client, Dena Karari, a dual U.S.-Iran national, has safely left Iran and is on her way back to the United States. She was previously trapped in Iran on false charges of collaborating with an enemy state and engaging in espionage."
He said Karari came under scrutiny by Tehran authorities due to her work running the nonprofit 'Children of Mehr Foundation,' which supports impoverished children in Iran through private donations.
Genser stated: "During the period when she was forcibly prevented from leaving, she was interrogated dozens of times by Iran's intelligence security forces. Although not formally detained, she endured significant psychological and physical distress."
Iran has been accused of detaining several nationals from Western countries, using them as bargaining chips in negotiations with their home countries.
Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding last month aiming to end the Middle East conflict, but hostilities have reignited, with fighting resuming across the region.
In April this year, Trump claimed that eight Iranian women were spared from execution due to his intervention; Tehran officials dismissed this as 'fake news,' denying any such execution plans existed.
In May, Washington announced the release of an Iranian citizen with U.S. permanent residency who had served 10 years in an Iranian prison. (Intern translator: Chiu Wei-chen / Editor: Chen I-wei) 1150716
