According to Central News Agency (CNA) in Taipei on the 16th, the exchange rate of the New Taiwan dollar against the U.S. dollar stood at 32.178 at noon in the Taipei foreign exchange market, rising by 1.1 cents compared to the previous session, with a trading volume of 642 million U.S. dollars.
The New Taiwan dollar opened at 32.17 on the day, reaching a high of 32.10 and a low of 32.20 during morning trading.
Market analysts suggest that the appreciation was driven by a weaker U.S. dollar globally and firmness in Asian currencies. Additionally, foreign exchange inflows from Taiwan's export sector may have supported the currency.
Looking ahead, the direction of the exchange rate will likely be influenced by the U.S. Federal Reserve's monetary policy, geopolitical risks involving China, and Taiwan's trade balance. Market observers expect continued volatility in the coming weeks.
