Taipei, July 4 (CNA) A Taiwan Tigerair flight from Tokyo Narita to Kaohsiung experienced a brief electronic bay smoke warning today. Taiwan Tigerair stated that while a temporary warning was issued, no actual smoke was detected. As a precautionary measure, the flight diverted to Taoyuan International Airport, and passengers were arranged to travel to Kaohsiung by land.
Some netizens posted on social media that they smelled an odor on Taiwan Tigerair flight IT281 from Tokyo Narita to Kaohsiung today, after which the flight diverted to Taoyuan Airport.
Taiwan Tigerair explained via message that flight IT281 from Tokyo Narita to Kaohsiung experienced a brief electronic bay smoke warning. However, no smoke was present. Out of caution, the flight crew reported the situation to air traffic control according to procedure and diverted to the nearest airport, Taoyuan Airport. The landing was completed smoothly under the guidance of air traffic control.
Taiwan Tigerair stated that after landing, they followed instructions from the local airport tower to exit the main runway. All passengers disembarked safely and according to normal procedures. The incident was proactively reported to the Civil Aeronautics Administration, and the manufacturer was also contacted to clarify the root cause and ensure flight safety.
Taiwan Tigerair indicated that they have initiated emergency procedures and will prioritize assisting passengers of the affected IT281 flight with land transportation back to Kaohsiung.
