(CNA, Taipei, July 3) - The Legislative Yuan's plenary session today conducted a roll-call vote on the confirmation of nominees for the Central Election Commission (CEC). The Executive Yuan's re-submitted list of three CEC members was once again blocked by the KMT and TPP caucuses. The Executive Yuan stated it deeply regrets this outcome, which is detrimental to public trust in the objectivity and consistency of the Legislative Yuan's personnel review process.

On April 21, the Executive Yuan re-submitted the nominations of former Executive Yuan Counselor Shen Shu-fei, lawyer Tsai Wei-che, and Deputy Minister of Justice Huang Mou-hsin as CEC members to the Legislative Yuan for review. In today's roll-call vote on the confirmation of CEC nominees, both the KMT and TPP caucuses cast dissenting votes against all three nominees.

Executive Yuan spokesperson Li Hui-chih stated through the media group that the Executive Yuan had previously communicated with the Legislative Yuan in good faith and nominated CEC members by referencing suggestions from various party caucuses. However, these nominations did not receive support, impacting inter-party trust and subsequent communication. Despite this, the Executive Yuan re-submitted three nominees in the hope of quickly filling the vacant CEC positions and ensuring the commission's normal operation.

Li Hui-chih added that Executive Yuan Secretary-General Chang Chun-han had previously met with the three nominees to visit the caucuses in the Legislative Yuan. The three nominees also received many positive evaluations during their questioning in the Legislative Yuan. However, these nominations were still rejected by the Legislative Yuan, with some legislators citing "conservative questionnaire responses" as reasons for their dissent. This is likely detrimental to public trust in the objectivity and consistency of the personnel review process, and the Executive Yuan deeply regrets this outcome. (Editor: Hsieh Chia-chen) 1150703
