(CNA, Taipei, June 30) According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture as of 5 p.m. today, the total agricultural product and private facility damages caused by the June 8th heavy rains and the heavy rains in late June have exceeded NT$480 million, with Pingtung County suffering the most at approximately NT$240 million.
After consolidating the investigation reports from various special municipalities and county/city governments by the Ministry of Agriculture's Agriculture and Food Agency, Fisheries Agency, and Animal Industry Department, Pingtung sustained the most damage, followed by Kaohsiung City at approximately NT$68.1 million, Yunlin County at approximately NT$48.74 million, Changhua County at approximately NT$45.03 million, Tainan City at approximately NT$28.40 million, and Taoyuan City at approximately NT$19.17 million.
In addition, according to the Ministry of Agriculture's statistics, the heavy rains last week caused agricultural crop damage to an area of 3,087 hectares, with a damage severity of 23%, equivalent to 713 hectares of unharvested area. The main affected crop was guava, with an affected area of 471 hectares, a damage severity of 20%, equivalent to 95 hectares of unharvested area, and a loss of NT$55.96 million. This was followed by orchids, bananas, papayas, and forage grass.
Furthermore, livestock losses are estimated at NT$10.15 million, with the main affected livestock being chickens, amounting to NT$4.29 million, followed by ducks and pigs. Fishery product losses are estimated at NT$85.85 million, with the main affected fishery product being hard-shelled clams, amounting to NT$24.42 million, followed by freshwater prawns and perch.
