Hualien, June 27 – The Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency’s Hualien Branch issued a yellow alert for the Wanli River landslide dam at 7:35 AM today. Based on the Central Weather Administration’s 5:00 AM forecast predicting 54 millimeters of rainfall, the threshold for a yellow alert has been met, indicating a potential overflow within 48 hours. Consequently, all designated households in the protected zone must evacuate.
According to monitoring data from the Hualien Branch as of 4:00 PM on the 26th, the landslide dam stands at 108 meters tall, with an overflow point elevation of 1080 meters. Its maximum water storage capacity is approximately 4.2 million cubic meters. Currently, it holds about 1.34 million cubic meters (32% capacity), with a water level at 1057 meters. Should cumulative rainfall reach 45 millimeters, the dam could reach full capacity and overflow.
Local township offices have identified 69 households and 183 individuals residing in the seven villages and neighborhoods within Wanrong Township and Fenglin Township that fall under the protection plan.
