TAIPEI, June 26 (CNA) — The Taiwan stock market opened lower and continued its downward trend today, closing at 44,571.76 points, down 1,683.50 points, or 3.64%. The total market turnover reached NT$1.5498 trillion.
The weighted index opened at 46,188.6 points, hitting a session high of 46,188.6 points and a low of 44,454.22 points. The index excluding financial stocks closed at 39,963.7 points, a decline of 1,580.73 points.
Performance across the eight major sectors: Cement -2.83%, Food -1.3%, Plastics -4.35%, Textiles -1.34%, Electromechanics -3.91%, Paper -1.42%, Construction -1.82%, and Finance -1.7%.
Market technical data showed 25.42 million buy orders and 19.95 million sell orders, with a total of 16.39 million shares traded. Market breadth remained weak, with 78 stocks closing higher, 992 lower, and 32 remaining flat.
The top five most actively traded stocks by volume were Innolux, KGI Taiwan, Yuanta Taiwan 50 Leveraged 2X, Uni-President Upgrade 50, and UMC. The top five gainers were Chung Fu, Guang Ding, Chang Guang, Siward, and Beron. The top five decliners included Fubon Apple Leveraged 2X, Fubon Apple 2X, Linyu Metal, WinWay, and Formosa Plastics.
