Heavy, continuous rainfall since yesterday evening in Tainan has resulted in severe flooding across parts of Yongkang, East District, and Rende. Local fire departments deployed inflatable boats to evacuate elderly residents, while traffic around the National Highway 1 Rende Interchange remains severely restricted.
Flooding began in the early hours of 2:00–3:00 AM, with water levels reaching waist-height in some areas, submerging parked vehicles and causing engines to stall near the interchange. Police have established cordons in affected zones. Beyond residential areas, businesses and factories near the Rende Interchange on Zhongshan Road were also inundated. Residents noted that despite previous improvements to the Sanye Creek drainage system, the intensity of this rainfall exceeded expectations.
District officials report that multiple roads, including underpasses and industrial zones, were affected. According to the Central Weather Administration, Guiren District recorded the highest rainfall in the past six hours at 211mm, with Yongkang and Xinhua exceeding 200mm.
