The New Taipei City Government announced that the Sanying Line will officially begin operations on June 30. A two-month free trial period will run from that afternoon through August 31, significantly reducing travel time between the Sanying area and Taipei's city center by approximately 20 minutes.
Mayor Hou Yu-ih stated that the Sanying Line is the first medium-capacity metro system built independently by New Taipei City. Following a final inspection on June 7 and approval from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications on June 23, the city finalized preparations for the opening just before the summer holidays.
During the trial period, the city will collect public feedback to optimize facilities and services. The 14.29-kilometer line features 12 stations, connecting Tucheng, Sanxia, and Yingge. It offers transfers to the Bannan Line at Dingpu Station and the Taiwan Railways at Yingge Station. Future extensions are planned to connect with the Taoyuan Green Line.
Li Cheng-an, Director-General of the New Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems, noted that the project overcame significant engineering challenges. The line incorporates 59 design optimizations, including an AI-based forward-looking image recognition system for trains and multilingual ticketing interfaces in ten languages.
To ensure passenger safety, the New Taipei City Police Department will establish the 'Sanying Metro Division' on June 29, dedicated to patrolling stations and trains. With the addition of the Sanying Line, the total operational length of the New Taipei Metro network will reach 108 kilometers across 90 stations, marking a major milestone for regional infrastructure.
