Central News Agency (CNA) reported from Taipei on the 26th that recent heavy rainfall across southern Taiwan has resulted in multiple damage reports. The Fourth Theater of Operations stated that pre-positioned troops were dispatched today to Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County to assist police, fire departments, and local governments in clearing roads, removing obstacles, and conducting restoration work. This effort aims to mitigate the impact of the disaster and help citizens return to normalcy as soon as possible.
The Fourth Theater of Operations noted that the combination of the outer circulation of Typhoon Mekkhala and southwesterly winds led to intense, short-duration rainfall in the south. This caused flooding and traffic disruptions in several areas, meeting the criteria for suspension of work and classes.
To support local authorities, the Fourth Theater of Operations has prepared 1,223 personnel for disaster response, along with various vehicles and equipment, including 110 items across five categories such as power generators and water pumps. Additionally, 85 liaison officers and 65 pre-positioned personnel have been stationed in high-risk areas to maintain close contact with local governments, monitor real-time weather and flood data, and implement emergency response measures to safeguard public safety.
As of this morning, troops were deployed to Meinong and Shanlin districts in Kaohsiung, as well as Zhutian, Chunri, and Chaozhou townships in Pingtung, where they are currently working alongside local agencies to clear debris and restore critical infrastructure.
