On June 26, at 10:29 p.m. local time, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake occurred in the eastern Yamanashi and Fuji Five Lakes region of Japan at a depth of approximately 20 kilometers. The maximum seismic intensity of 6 Lower was observed in Fujikawaguchiko Town, Yamanashi Prefecture. Strong shaking was also felt across the Tokyo metropolitan area, including Kanagawa, Shizuoka, and Chiba Prefectures.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, while the epicenter was in the Fuji Five Lakes area, a seismic intensity of 5 Upper was recorded in Otsuki City, Yamanashi. Intensity 5 Lower was measured in multiple locations, including Kofu City, Fujiyoshida City, and several municipalities in Kanagawa and Shizuoka.
Significant tremors reached the greater Tokyo area, with intensity 4 reported in cities such as Hachioji, Machida, Yokohama, Kawasaki, and Odawara. Most of Tokyo's 23 wards, along with parts of Saitama, Chiba, Nagano, and Shizuoka, experienced intensity 3 shaking. Lower levels of intensity (1 to 2) were reported across a broad region extending from Ibaraki to Hyogo Prefecture.
