The Taiwan national baseball training squad, preparing for the Asian Games, departed for the Netherlands today to compete in the Haarlem Baseball Week. The roster has undergone adjustments, with pitcher Chang Yen-tse and catcher Lu Tung-han replacing catcher Wu Sung-hsun and pitcher Lei Hao-po.
Following the spring league in May, the 40-man training list was narrowed down to 24 players on May 22. This European tour, including the Haarlem Baseball Week and the Czech Baseball Week, serves as a critical phase in the team's selection and development process. The team is led by head coach Tang Teng-kai.
Chang Yen-tse, a 19-year-old pitcher standing 187 cm tall with a fastball reaching 147 km/h, is currently registered for the CPBL draft, while catcher Lu Tung-han represents the Taiwan Cooperative Bank team.
The Haarlem Baseball Week begins on June 26. Taiwan’s schedule includes games against Curaçao, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, the International Globetrotters, and Italy. Following the tournament, the team will travel to the Czech Republic on July 5 for further competition.
