A shooting occurred today at the Chen Yue-ji Ancestral House, a national historic site on Section 4, Yanping North Road in Taipei's Datong District. A man surnamed Chen (70s) was shot in the lower leg following a failed negotiation with a man surnamed Chiang (60s) regarding gambling debts. Police arrested the suspect within two hours of the incident.
Taipei authorities received the report at 4:14 PM, confirming the victim had been shot in the right leg. The victim was transported to Shin Kong Wu Ho-Su Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment and remains conscious.
Preliminary investigations reveal the two men are relatives, with a history of disputes over small loans and gambling debts. During their meeting at the historic site, the argument escalated, leading Chiang to fire at Chen's leg before fleeing the scene.
Through surveillance footage analysis, a police task force located Chiang in the Hami Street area. Police seized one firearm, one live round, and a mobile phone. Chiang claimed the weapon was left behind by a deceased friend. The case has been referred to the Shilin District Prosecutors Office for investigation, with police recommending preventive detention.
