KAOHSIUNG, June 23 (CNA) — A 57-year-old woman, surnamed Hsu, was found dead approximately 100 meters down a ravine near Sancha Peak on Yushan after separating from her hiking group. Rescue teams have recovered her body to the Yuanfeng Cabin, and an aerial rescue mission is currently on standby.
The Kaohsiung City Fire Bureau received a report relayed from Nantou 119 yesterday at approximately 9:00 PM. A group of seven hikers reported that Hsu had separated from the team at around 2:00 PM, citing exhaustion, and expressed her intention to return to the Yuanfeng Cabin alone. When she failed to arrive, the group initiated a distress call.
Search and rescue personnel located her remains today and transported them to the cabin by 1:00 PM. Although an aerial retrieval mission has been approved, heavy cloud cover at the site is currently preventing helicopter operations.
