(CNA reporter Cheng Ching-yu, Warsaw, June 23) The '2026 Taiwan Expo Europe' opened on June 22 in Warsaw, Poland. Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Jiang Wen-ruo stated that Poland was selected this year due to strong industry confidence in its role as a European manufacturing hub. With the announcement by the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA) to establish a technology park in Poland, a wave of Taiwanese investment is expected, and both sides will deepen collaboration in AI and electric vehicles.

In a media interview after the opening ceremony, Jiang Wen-ruo said the Taiwan Expo has expanded since its launch in 2017 from New Southbound countries to markets in the U.S. and Europe. Following its 2024 event in Germany, this year marks the first time the expo has moved to Poland.

Jiang pointed out that many Taiwanese companies have already established a presence in Poland, particularly in ICT and green energy storage. Given that the automotive industry is a traditional strength in Poland and is currently undergoing rapid transformation, Taiwanese firms are actively engaging in comprehensive cooperation with Polish counterparts, from R&D to manufacturing. She emphasized that Taiwan and Poland will deepen joint development in artificial intelligence (AI) and the electric vehicle sector.

Regarding the site selection for the science park by the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA), Jiang revealed that the association conducted rigorous market research and evaluation across Wrocław, Katowice, and Łódź, ultimately deciding on the Wrocław metropolitan area. She added that the next critical step is regulatory alignment with Polish central and local governments, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs will fully assist TEEMA in connecting with Polish authorities.

Jiang further mentioned that the Ministry established the Taiwan Trade and Investment Center in Warsaw by the end of December 2025 to help Taiwanese businesses entering Central and Eastern Europe navigate complex local laws and tax regulations.

On the progress of the technology park, the Ministry not only hopes for its early completion but also plans to assist入驻 companies in securing the most favorable local tax rates, aligning with the government’s core strategy of 'Rooted in Taiwan, Global Deployment, Marketing Worldwide.'

Additionally, regarding Taiwan-EU economic and trade relations, Jiang reiterated that Taiwan has consistently and actively promoted cooperation with the EU. Although led by the EU Commission, practical dialogue and advancement have never ceased.

Highlighting key industries, Jiang specifically mentioned drones. She noted that drones are a strategically prioritized sector, and the 'Taiwan Excellence Drone Overseas Business Alliance,' established by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, has already attracted over 200 companies and actively participates in international exhibitions.

Following a group participation in the Poland Drone Expo in March, this year’s Taiwan Expo brings 16 Taiwanese drone companies to exhibit. Jiang emphasized that Taiwan is highly confident in further expanding drone market opportunities in Poland and Central Europe. (Editor: Tang Sheng-yang) 1150623
