The Taiwan men's 4x100m relay team achieved a significant milestone at the 2nd Asian Relay Championships in Shaoxing, China, capturing the bronze medal with a new national record of 38.41 seconds on the second day of the competition.
The team, comprised of Lai Po-hsiang, Chen Wen-pu, Huang Tso-chun, and Ke Wu-yen-ming, improved upon the previous national record of 38.76 seconds. The performance follows a strong showing at the New Taipei International Track and Field Open earlier this June, where a similar roster clocked 38.80 seconds.
Head coach Yi Wei-chen, a former national record holder himself, attributed the success to technical refinements in relay handoffs. "We focused on the precision of exchange zones rather than individual technique, given the limited preparation time," Yi stated. He also noted that star sprinter Yang Chun-han was held out of the race as a precaution due to a recurring Achilles injury, but remains a key part of the squad’s strategy for the upcoming Nagoya Asian Games.
The Chinese Taipei Athletics Association has awarded the athletes and the coach with performance bonuses of NT$20,000 and NT$40,000, respectively, in recognition of the new national record.
