Central News Agency (CNA), Taipei, June 21 — Real-time traffic data from the Taiwan Area National Freeway Bureau (TANFB) indicates that as of 6:00 PM, sporadic congestion persists on major national highways, including segments of National Highway 1 (Hsinchu County to Hukou) and National Highway 5 (Yilan to Pinglin). Authorities anticipate that traffic flow will gradually improve after 9:00 PM.
Today marks the final day of the Dragon Boat Festival long weekend. The TANFB reported that afternoon congestion occurred on National Highway 1 (northbound sections including Hsinchu to Hukou, Daya to Houli, and Beidou to Yuanlin), National Highway 3 (Dashan to Xibin), and National Highway 5 (Yilan to Shiding). Traffic remains generally smooth on other sections.
As of 5:00 PM, the cumulative traffic volume on national highways reached 69.9 million vehicle-kilometers. The TANFB estimates the total daily volume will reach 108 million vehicle-kilometers, which remains within the projected range.
According to real-time traffic monitoring, as of 6:00 PM, speeds dropped below 40 km/h on segments of National Highway 1 (Zhubei to Hukou, Taichung System to Tai'an Service Area), National Highway 3 (Dashan to Zhunan), and National Highway 5 (Yilan to Pinglin). Notably, the segment of National Highway 5 from Yilan to Toucheng recorded speeds below 20 km/h.
The TANFB estimates that traffic congestion on both western national highways and National Highway 5 will begin to ease after 9:00 PM tonight.
