CHICAGO (CNA) — A mass shooting occurred in Chicago, where police reported that two gunmen opened fire from a vehicle into a crowd on the city's South Side last night, leaving at least 13 people injured.
Local residents informed ABC7 that the incident took place during a Juneteenth celebration. Police responded to reports of gunfire in the Princeton Park neighborhood of Roseland late last night.
Investigators stated that a red SUV pulled up alongside a large group of people; two individuals inside the vehicle opened fire before fleeing the scene. Surveillance footage captured the sequence of shots, showing crowds dispersing in search of cover.
Upon arrival, officers discovered two victims at the scene, while 10 others sought medical attention at local hospitals on their own. Authorities later confirmed that a 26-year-old man was also injured, though he declined medical treatment.
Local resident Michael Blount described hearing a rapid succession of loud gunshots followed by the arrival of emergency sirens. He expressed concern regarding the timing of the violence, noting that the community was gathered to celebrate the holiday.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made as of yet.
