According to FIFA, the match between Japan and Tunisia scheduled for tomorrow will officially become the 1,000th game in the history of the FIFA World Cup. Japan’s national team manager expressed his intent for the squad to deliver a performance worthy of this historic milestone.
Reports from major international agencies indicate that the match will take place at Monterrey Stadium in Mexico. Heading into this fixture, Japan enters following a 2-2 draw against the Netherlands in Dallas, while Tunisia looks to recover from a 1-5 defeat against Sweden.
Japanese manager Hajime Moriyasu stated that participating in the 1,000th World Cup match is an honor and emphasized the team’s commitment to putting on a high-quality display. He remarked, "We want to ensure this is a great game, worthy of the World Cup's 1,000th match."
Following a heavy opening loss to Sweden on the 14th, Tunisia replaced head coach Sabri Lamouchi with French manager Herve Renard. Moriyasu noted that Renard’s extensive experience—most notably leading Saudi Arabia to a shock 2-1 victory over Argentina in the 2022 World Cup—will make Tunisia a formidable opponent. Tunisian captain Ellyes Skhiri added that being part of the 1,000th match carries significant meaning for the team.
This tournament features a record 48 participating nations, a notable expansion from the 13 teams that competed in the inaugural 1930 World Cup.
