The Hsinchu City Government announced today that it successfully won a legal battle regarding the delayed renovation of the Hsinchu Children’s Exploration Museum. Following the termination of the contract in September 2022 due to severe progress failures, the Hsinchu District Court ruled that the contractor must pay the city over NT$100 million. The city plans to use this outcome to resume the site's transformation into a Science Education Center.

The project, commissioned under the previous administration, faced persistent delays. By the scheduled completion date, the progress remained significantly behind, and labor activity became abnormally low, leading the city to terminate the contract in accordance with legal procedures in September 2022.

After failing to reach a settlement regarding the return of overpayments, overdue penalties, and damages, the city filed a lawsuit in October 2025. The court ruled in favor of the city, noting the contractor’s serious neglect and contractual violations. The court ordered the contractor to pay NT$102,181,467, plus 5% annual interest starting February 12, 2026, and to cover all litigation costs.

Currently, the project to transform the facility into a Science Education Center has entered the detailed design review phase. The city expects to initiate the construction bidding process later this year.
