The Wei Chuan Dragons faced the Rakuten Monkeys on June 19th, securing an 11-3 victory behind a powerful offensive display totaling 23 hits. Giljegiljaw Kungkuan led the charge with two home runs and four RBIs, marking the team’s third consecutive win. The Dragons' magic number for the first-half season title is now 1, with the possibility of clinching the championship as early as tomorrow.
The Dragons entered the game with a magic number of 2. Their offense started strong in the first inning, fueled by hits from Kuo Tien-hsin and Liu Chi-hung. A three-run homer from Giljegiljaw Kungkuan established an early 4-0 lead. The team continued to expand their advantage in the later innings, including an additional two-run effort in the fifth and late-game solo home runs by Wang Shun-ho and a second blast from Kungkuan in the ninth.
Starting pitcher Marcelo Martinez threw 7 solid innings, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits while striking out opponents to earn his third win of the season. Kungkuan, finishing the day 3-for-5 with two homers and four RBIs, was named the Player of the Game (MVP).
With this win and the Fubon Guardians' victory over the CTBC Brothers, the Dragons' magic number has officially dropped to M1. The Dragons will face the TSG Hawks at Chengcing Lake Baseball Stadium tomorrow. They will clinch the first-half title if they win or tie their game, or if the Guardians fail to win against the Monkeys.
