Taiwan Announces High School Exam-Free Admission Quotas; Public Schools Account for 60%

(CNA reporter Chen Chih-chung, Taipei, 18th) The Ministry of Education announced today the actual number of enrollment spots for the 115th academic year's high school "exam-free admission" channel, totaling 153,595, a slight decrease from last year. Public schools account for 60% of these spots. Simultaneously, a service has been opened for students to inquire about their percentile rank and cumulative number range within their school district.

The Ministry of Education stated in a press release today that the total number of spots listed in the admission guidelines for the 115th academic year was 184,459 (compared to 188,316 in the 114th academic year). After deducting the number of students admitted and registered through channels such as complete exam-free admission in learning districts, direct promotion, and priority admission, and then adding back the unfilled vacancies, the total actual enrollment for the 15 school districts was calculated to be 153,595 (compared to 157,504 last year).

Furthermore, to facilitate students in selecting their preferences for exam-free admission, the 15 school districts will begin providing a query service for the "individual percentile rank and cumulative number range based on comparison item scores for exam-free admission (excluding preference order)" starting today.

The Ministry stated that the individual percentile rank intervals must be presented in a way that is not less than 0.3% and involves no fewer than 100 people. During the preference selection period, students can visit the exam-free admission application and placement system website to check their percentile rank and cumulative number range in their school district.

The results for exam-free admission are scheduled to be announced on July 7, with registration on July 9. The schedules for preference selection, application, and document submission in each school district can be found on the websites of the respective district's exam-free admission committees.
